On Tuesday, the Senate confirmed Doug Collins as the new Secretary of Veterans Affairs with a 77-23 vote. Collins, a former Georgia congressman and Air Force chaplain, garnered bipartisan support, including votes from all Senate Republicans and nearly half of the Democrats. As Secretary, Collins will oversee the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), which provides vital services like healthcare, pensions, and educational benefits to veterans. His role also includes improving VA efficiency, reducing wait times, and addressing veteran suicides. Collins will collaborate with Congress, the Department of Defense, and nonprofit organizations to enhance support for veterans, ensuring they receive the care and services they deserve.
