A teaser trailer for the new Netflix series The Chosen One, which is based on the graphic novel American Jesus, has been released.
The show is due to debut on August 16, and follows the story of a 12-year-old boy who discovers he has returned as Jesus Christ.
While he can do many of the things that Jesus can, such as turn water into wine, will he be able to lead the world through a conflict thousands of years in the making?

The first teaser gives an intriguing glimpse of things to come, with a flash of images and a tense soundtrack.
The full synopsis reads: “Imagine for a moment… You’re 12 years old and one day you discover that you possess the same powers as Jesus Christ. Meet Jodie, a kid who finds himself in awe as he starts to develop incredible and divine abilities.
“The events and revelations that follow lead the young prodigy and his crew of friends to embark on a supernatural coming-of-age journey through the Baja region that could change their reality and everything the world believes. Will he rise to answer the divine call?”

The Chosen One’s cast includes Glee star Dianna Agron and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Tenoch Huerta.
Also on board to star in the series are Bobby Luhnow, Carlos Bardem, Alfonso Dosal, Sofía Sisniega and Eileen Yáñez, while Everardo Gout and Leopoldo Gout will serve as showrunners.
American Jesus was originally released back in 2004 and was created by Mark Millar and artist Peter Gross.
The Chosen One is set to debut on Netflix on August 16.
